# Google Play trader status: are you a trader?

Every Google Play developer account must declare "trader" or "non-trader" by **1 February 2027**, wherever your users are. If you miss it, Google can block your app updates and remove your apps from Play worldwide. Answer six questions to see which status probably fits and what users will see about you.

What kind of Play Console account do you have?

Do any of your apps make money?

Is publishing apps something you do regularly, as work or a side business?

Do you have a registered business (company, LLC, GST/VAT number, sole proprietorship)?

Are your apps available to users in the EU, EEA or UK?

Which address is in your Google payments profile?

## What Google requires

- **Who:** "all developers worldwide." Google says the declaration "must be completed by February 1, 2027, regardless of where apps are targeted or distributed."
- **New accounts:** declare at sign-up. ** Existing accounts:** by 1 February 2027, in Play Console.
- **If you don't:** "enforcement including app update blocks and removal from the Play Store globally."
- **From 1 March 2027:** users everywhere see a trader's contact details. For an individual account that declares trader status, "a phone number and address will now be displayed." Organisations also show their D-U-N-S number in the App support section.
- **Google won't decide for you.** It lists signals such as regular income from apps (paid apps, in-app purchases or ads), the number of transactions, running publishing as a business, and having a registered business or D-U-N-S number.

This is the same EU Digital Services Act rule Apple enforced in February 2025, when it pulled over 135,000 apps from its EU App Store for missing trader status. Google's version is stricter: the deadline applies to every account, and removal can be global.

## What will be public, and how to protect your home address

If you're a trader on a personal account, the address and phone number come from your payments profile and will be shown on every app's store listing. Before you declare:

- **Get a dedicated phone number** for app support (a second SIM, an eSIM, or a business VoIP number). Don't use your personal mobile.
- **Use a business address you're happy to publish.** A shop, office or coworking address works. In India, a registered office of your sole proprietorship or company; in the US, the address of your LLC's office (not a registered agent's address if you never receive mail there).
- **Consider an organisation account.** If you already have a company, an organisation account shows the company's details and D-U-N-S number instead of yours. D-U-N-S numbers are free from Dun & Bradstreet (allow up to 30 days).
- **Update the payments profile first**, then make the declaration, so the right details are what gets shown.

## Don't declare "non-trader" just to hide your address

A false non-trader declaration is the riskiest option. Google says it may ask you to update a declaration that conflicts with your account activity, and apps can be removed if you don't. If your app shows ads or sells anything, assume Google will see that.

## Terms of service template for traders

Traders need a terms-of-service link for each app. Fill in your details to get a plain starting draft. It's a template, not legal advice: read it and change anything that doesn't match how your app works.

Your name or business name

App name

Public business address

Support email

Country whose law applies (usually where you live)

The app has in-app purchases or subscriptions

The app shows ads

Publish it on any web page you control (a free GitHub Pages or Google Sites page works) and paste that link into Play Console.

## Checklist before 1 February 2027

- Decide trader or non-trader with the checker above.
- If trader: set up a support phone number and a publishable address, then update your payments profile.
- Publish a terms-of-service page for each app and add the link.
- Complete the declaration and self-certification in Play Console.
- Check each store listing after 1 March 2027 to see exactly what's shown.

Publishing on Apple too? Apple has asked for the same trader status in its EU App Store since February 2025. Read [setting up an Apple developer account as an LLC](https://filingchecker.com/apple-developer-account-llc).
