# Companies House deadline checker

Every UK limited company has two Companies House filings each year, the annual accounts and the confirmation statement, plus a corporation tax return to HMRC. Enter two or three dates and see when each is due, and what you owe if you're already late.

Company type

Date of incorporation

Accounts made up to (year end)

Last confirmation statement date (leave blank if none yet)

Accounts filed on (leave blank if not filed)

These are the company's first accounts

Last year's accounts were also filed late

All these dates are on your company's free page at [Find and update company information](https://find-and-update.company-information.service.gov.uk/). Its "due by" dates are the official ones; this checker shows the same rules and the penalty.

## The three yearly deadlines

| Filing | Who it goes to | When it's due |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Annual accounts | Companies House | 9 months after the year end (private), 6 months (public). First accounts: 21 months after incorporation (private), 18 months (public). |
| Confirmation statement | Companies House | Within 14 days after the statement date, at least once every 12 months. A fee is due each time. |
| Corporation tax return (CT600) | HMRC | 12 months after the end of the accounting period. The tax itself is due 9 months and 1 day after it. |

If your year end is the last day of a month, the accounts deadline is the last day of the month too. A 30 June year end is due 31 March, not 30 March.

## Late filing penalties for accounts

| How late | Private company | Public company |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Up to 1 month | £150 | £750 |
| 1 to 3 months | £375 | £1,500 |
| 3 to 6 months | £750 | £3,000 |
| More than 6 months | £1,500 | £7,500 |

The penalty doubles if the previous year's accounts were also late. It is charged to the company automatically, and only a few reasons are accepted on appeal (serious illness, a fire or flood, a Companies House error). See [how to appeal a Companies House late filing penalty](https://filingchecker.com/companies-house-late-filing-penalty).

## A late confirmation statement

There's no automatic fine, but not filing is a criminal offence for the company and its directors, and Companies House can start striking the company off the register. Since 18 November 2025 the statement also can't be filed until every director has verified their identity, so check [your director ID verification deadline](https://filingchecker.com/uk-director-id-verification) first.

## Directors living outside the UK

Many UK companies are run from India, the US, the UAE or Nigeria after being set up through a formation agent. The deadlines are the same wherever you live, the penalties are charged to the company, and Companies House letters go to the registered office, which is often the agent's address. If your agent's service has lapsed, you may not see the reminders at all.
