Apple Developer account for an LLC: D-U-N-S number and why enrollment gets rejected
To publish apps under your company's name, Apple needs your LLC to be a real legal entity with a D-U-N-S number, a working website on its own domain, and a work email on that domain. Most rejections come from a mismatch in one of these.
What Apple checks for an organization
- A legal entity that can sign contracts, such as an LLC or corporation. DBAs, trade names and branches aren't accepted. A sole trader enrolls as an individual instead.
- A D-U-N-S number registered to that exact legal name and address.
- Legal authority: the person enrolling must be able to bind the company, for example the owner.
- A public, working website on a domain tied to the company. Social media pages, near-empty sites and registrar "parked" pages are rejected.
- A work email on that domain, and your real first and last name on the Apple Account (with two-factor authentication on).
The fee is US$99 a year (local prices vary).
Getting the D-U-N-S number
- Search Apple's D-U-N-S lookup first; Dun & Bradstreet may already list your company.
- If not, request one free through the same tool with your legal name, headquarters and mailing address, and work contact details.
- Allow up to 5 business days for D&B, then up to 2 more before Apple can see it. If it takes over two weeks, email D&B.
Common reasons enrollment fails
- "Not listed as a legal entity": D&B has the wrong status or name. Send them your formation documents (articles of organization).
- Name or address mismatch between your state filing, D-U-N-S and enrollment. Use the exact legal name, including "LLC".
- Thin website or a free email address.
Non-US owner?
A US LLC owned from abroad can enroll the same way. Keep its US filings current too: a foreign-owned LLC must file Form 5472 every year, and the state may need an annual report.
